The Bear and The Two Travelers (Aesop)
 | ...... | Two men were traveling together, when a Bear suddenly met them on their path. One of them climbed up quickly into a tree, and hid himself in the branches. The other, seeing that he would be attacked, fell flat on the ground, and when the Bear came up and sniffed him all over, he held his breath, and pretended to be dead. The Bear soon left him, because it seems that bears do not touch a dead body. When the animal was gone, the other traveler came down from the tree, and, as a joke, asked his friend “What did the Bear whisper in your ear?” His friend answered: “He gave me this advice: Never travel with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger.” |
Tradução (livre, sem fins didáticos):
Dois homens viajavam juntos quando um Urso surgiu de repente no caminho que seguiam. Um deles subiu rapidamente em uma árvore e se escondeu entre os galhos. O outro, vendo que seria atacado, caiu no chão e quando o Urso se aproximou e o cheirou, prendeu a respiração e fingiu estar morto. Logo o Urso o deixou, pois parece que ursos não tocam o corpo de um morto.
Quando o animal se foi, o outro viajante desceu da árvore e, de brincadeira, perguntou ao amigo "O que o Urso cochichou em seu ouvido?" O amigo respondeu: "Ele me deu este conselho: Jamais viaje com um amigo que te abandona quando o perigo se aproxima."
